Disconnect to Connect — Season of Separation

Image
"For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1 sea•son noun 1. each,of the four divisions of the year (spring, summer, autumn, and winter) marked by particular weather patterns and daylight hours, resulting from the earth's changing position with regard to the sun. We can tell the changing of the seasons by nature. We look for colorful leaves in the fall, cold snowy days in the winter, cool sunny days in the spring & hot humid days in the summer. One thing for sure is that we always know what to expect for each season. But what about the seasons that God places us in? We can’t be sure what to expect. The Word of God tells us that our thoughts are not God’s thoughts nor our ways His ways (Isaiah 55:8). Sometimes God flips the script on us & puts us in a new season.  Let me be completely transparent & personal—I am in a season of separation. I know what you're thinking. "Girl, what?

In Spirit & in Truth: My Worship Playlist

"But the time is coming —indeed it's here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way" John 4:23 NLT wor•ship verb 1. the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for (a deity); honor with religious rights Does anyone just love to worship? I mean honestly. Hands lifted in surrenderance to a God who is so worthy of our praise. To the One who never stops providing our needs on a daily basis. A Father who loves us beyond our infinite flaws. What a good GOOD Father He is. Worship is required of us to maintain that vertical relationship with God. It is our way of telling God what He means to us & how much we adore Him. After my morning prayer, I like to go into worship. During worship, I like to listen to songs that maintains the atmosphere that was set during prayer. Here are a few songs on my worship playlist:  1. God Almighty by Maranda Curtis  T

5 Natural Hair Tips

So you're transitioning. In my opinion, it was one of the hardest parts of going natural. You have to resist the urge to put heat on your hair...you have to deal with different hair textures (curly roots, wavy middle and straight ends)...& my personal favorite, if you're in the south, you have to worry about everyone's mouth *rolls eyes*. It's okay. Take a deep breath. I understand your pain. Here are 5 tips to help you along the way: 1) Protective Styles: Whenever I was transitioning, I wore sew-ins faithfully. Every month, I had my mom doing my hair. Now I didn't realize that I was still damaging my hair by straightening the leave out but it was better than getting a relaxer. Protective styles such as sew-ins, braids, twist, etc. protect the ends of your hair which is the oldest part of your hair. Have you ever heard that your hair grows the fastest when you leave it alone? Well that isn't a myth. 2) Avoid Heat: Heat is extremely damaging to the

Count Your Blessings Recently, I've had to count my blessings. I mean literally count my blessings: 1) God woke me up this morning 2) God has been faithful to me all my life even when I disobeyed Him. He was right there with open arms, waiting for me to come home. 3) He provided me with a loving family who would do anything for me. 4) He allowed me to go to college and have an apartment. 5) He places me around people who care. 6) He rescued me from the depressing sea of sorrow. 7) He blessed me with an amazing dog. 8) He has provided me with good health 9) He leaves His Word marked on my heart when I don't know what else to confide in. 10) He loves me beyond measure. These are just some of the blessings that God has granted me. Sometimes, dealing with anxiety and life in general (which is still kinda anxiety) can be overwhelming. But when I look at my blessings...I know that God has done and can do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we can ask or think (Ephes

For This I Have Prayed For: Knowing if You're Acting in the Will of God.

It's Okay...     How many of us have said things that have unintentionally or, let's be honest, intentionally hurt someone? We ALL can raise both hands & both feet for that matter. It can be so easy to get caught up in our feelings whether new or old. There are some things that just hurt no matter the amount of time that you have allowed yourself to heal from the situation. The pain is still there, you may still cry from time to time & you may still feel a state of confusion. Everyone wants you to move past it already but they don't understand exactly how YOU feel. Let me be one of the first to tell you...it's okay to feel this way. You take the time that you need to get past it. Do what you need to do WITHOUT sinning (Ephesians 4:26). God hears your cry. I promise. He knows your heart. He feels every ache, He senses every tear that trickles down your face and He hears every shout that escapes out of your mouth. It's okay. God, is THIS what I prayed f

No Turning Back          "I'm tired of the creamy crack, now what?" I asked myself this question when I first went natural. Do I big chop? Transition? Well, let's go to the natural hair dictionary to see what exactly these things mean. Transitioning: the process of allowing your natural hair to grow out while still holding on to the perm ends until your natural hair has grown to a certain length pleasing to you. Big chop: the process of cutting all of the damaged areas off of one's hair.      I remember my junior year of high school, envying every curly girl that walked by while I tried to embrace my damaged relaxed hair (shout out to all of my original Just for Me! relaxer girls!). I had no idea about the natural hair movement that had been on the rise. I was the girl who was faithful to the creamy crack once every three months and lived by the flatiron everyday, yes EVERYDAY. All my life I've had thick hair but could never achieve length. So finally,
